How do you tell a complete story when most of the interviewee's childhood friends, contemporaries, and colleagues have passed away. 100 summers is a long time to live.

I met Lucien Paquette in his kitchen when he was 98 while visiting my daughter Ali and her future husband, Ryan Paquette. Lucien was wearing knee pads and had just come in from his garden. He looked in great shape and to be much younger in spirit than any 80-year-old that I have ever known. I knew then that I wanted to share Lucien's stories.

On that visit, while traveling on a dirt road looking for new fishing water, I noticed a Sheriff running Radar.  I stopped, and we talked about Vermont and the state of law enforcement. He was getting ready to retire soon and counting the days. I'm not sure how the subject came up other than mentioning Lucien Paquette to which he asked me, "How do you know Lucien?" I told him, and then he began to tell me Lucien stories: about days when he was an extension agent and the founding father of the Hand--mowing event at the Addison County Fair. In August of 2016 when Lucien turned 100 he lost his first place title to an 80-year-old  competitor.

"Nothing Unusual: 100 Summers and Counting" is about Lucien's stories of love, family, friends, and life. When I asked him after living so long what do you look forward to next? He replied, "Tomorrow."

I shot hours of footage and listened to Lucien's stories in 2016. As I began the film editing process in 2017 Lucien turned 101. In the fall of that year when I stopped in to say hello he was on a step ladder repairing a door frame, having just finished digging forty feet of potatoes in his garden. I realized then that I needed to share this website now with his family and friends, even in its unfinished state.
